With the oodles and oodles of improvements Microsoft seems to be preparing for Windows Blue, it appears that the software titan is also giving the Metro Control Panel a new coat of paint.

The idea is to redesign the Metro Control Panel to make managing their devices and computers easier for beginners and novice users.

A new screenshot posed by WinBeta shows that the PC Settings menu now displays a special new “Top Settings” section that lets users easily access the basic (and frequently used) options like the lock screen, account picture and picture password.

The new menu also displays screen and sleep configuration settings, ensuing that users do not need to browse through each category to set up their computer.

This is obviously an image from the Preview build of the operating system that is still being refined. And it stands to reason that the software titan may also introduce a few more changes before the RTM version hits general availability later this year.

In any case, this seems to be another thing that we may find out more about at the BUILD developer conference in just a couple of weeks.

  • This was much needed. It was confusing before.

    • True, it’s good to have the most used settings in one place.

  • I’m glad. It looks like the “top settings” are the main categories in the Control Panel. If this is true, everything is in the metro version! No need to navigate that control panel trash again!
