IoT is transforming entire industries. Proof of that is the transformation of the manufacturing operations underway at Prima Glass with Microsoft Azure IoT at the center.

One of the fastest growing glass companies on the planet, Piramal Glass offers packaging solutions across a number of industries ranging from pharmaceutical to food and beverage. It has operations in the US, Europe, Brazil, Chine, UAE, India and Sri Lanka.

And as reported, it has partnered with Microsoft on IoT, and already seen business gains, including improvements in production efficiency and cost reduction up to 70%.

Vijay Shah, Director Piramal Glass and Executive Director Piramal Enterprises revealed the details:

“We are happy to have collaborated with Microsoft on our journey towards digital transformation and business critical future readiness. Combining digital technologies with precision high-quality glass manufacturing has helped us fortify our accelerated growth path.”

Precimetrix, a Microsoft partner, helped facilitate this transformation by bringing in its Plant Monitoring System hosted on Microsoft Azure.

The company has leveraged IoT to get real-time visibility into its line manufacturing operations and to analyze production line losses at various stages.

Piramal has 60 production lines across their four plants in India, Sri Lanka and the United States, with 12 furnaces, all of which run 24/7 for an overall capacity of 1375 tons per day. This makes Piramal the largest specialty glass player in Asia.
