Reuters said:

“I don’t think it will be successful because you cannot be a hardware player with two products,” he said to Reuters. “Microsoft is working with two dozen PC vendors worldwide, including the local guys, whereas Apple is alone, it can more or less do what it wants. Microsoft is a component of a PC system. A very important component but still a component.” “Instead of focusing on Windows 8, the software giant has started a whole new war with Apple, and the products — and partners — will suffer”, Ahrens said. “I worry that this will lead into a defocus internally for Microsoft, and then we have to suffer because we are working with their products.”. He added.
He was also worried that Microsoft would shift resources to building a consumer hardware brand and retail operation, and in the process take its eye off the ball in making sure Windows 8 was a success for the PC industry. He thought Microsoft was trying to copy some of Apple’s strategy, but he was doubtful it would succeed. This means Microsoft’s decision of launching their own tablet is not exactly getting love from hardware vendors. Hardware vendors are now feeling that now not only they will have to compete with the iPad but now they also will have to compete with Microsoft’s tablet in an already tight PC market. This leaves the hardware vendors in dilemma  whether they should go with full strength for Windows 8 or not. Still he said that they will be coming up with some cool hardware during Windows 8 launch. He said Q3 will be more challenging because it’s a transition quarter from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Let’s see what happens ahead.]]>

    • Exactly, the problem is Acer planned to enter this realm on the cheap and dirty.  Substitute Android OS with Windows RT and hope for success.  Microsoft is telling them this strategy wont work, but they dont want to hear it.  Prepare for the following, denial, anger, pleading, and hopefully finally acceptance.

  • I call BS. Don’t be afraid to compete with Microsoft. Just create something better… if you can. Just quit showing your panties. No one is interested.
