Finally, there has been some movement beyond home turf. Microsoft confirmed at BUILD 2022 that it is expanding its program to bring Android apps on Windows 11 to more countries.

The feature, which has been in development for a long time, became available to users recently after an extensive testing period. However, only users in the United States were able to try it. With this expansion, people in more markets will be able to use it.

These include the usual suspects like France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the good old UK.

As announced, Windows 11 users in these five additional markets will be able to take advantage of Android apps. Though the company has not outlined a set timeframe, it notes that this should happen by the end of the year.

Redmond also pointed out that the Amazon Appstore preview will continue growing on a monthly basis.

While this is all dandy, there is no word on official support for Google Play.

Enterprising users have already hacked into the possibility to run the most popular apps repository on Windows 11, but native support for Google-branded store still remains a distant dream. Not when the search engine giant itself is not keen on making its solutions available to Windows users in this fashion.

But hopefully, with this new expansion, Microsoft can finally take the next step.

That of making the Android app experience available to all users.

The software titan recently rolled out a wholesome set of improvements to the feature that added new and welcome changes to Windows Subsystem for Android, the technology that makes running these apps and games possible.
