Time for an update? Soon, very soon! Microsoft has released yet another update for the Windows 11 Update Stack Package as it continues to test improvements for this new feature.

With this refresh, the company hopes to minimize installation issues caused by certain updates.

But the big idea is to continue to deliver quality improvements to its operating platform outside the major Windows feature updates that make their way out annually. For this, a perfectly streamlined delivery mechanism is imperative.

As Redmond noted in one of the blog posts published earlier this year:

“The Update Stack Package will help ensure that your PC has the highest likelihood of successfully installing new updates with the best and least disruptive experience available.”

In simpler terms, think of update stack packages as smaller updates that are delivered prior to cumulative updates in order to reduce issues that are reported post or during the installation of these updates.

Or, put it this way, you can expect fewer installation errors if you install the stack package before deploying the main cumulative update.

And this is why we have version 1022.705.1011.0 out in the open. It arrives with an unknown number of fixes or improvements, though, as a changelog is not available. But this new version is apparently rolling out to users in the Dev Channel only.

The software titan started testing this new Update Stack Package with build 22478 or newer, and it will begin pushing the feature to everyone later this year.

We don’t exactly know yet how these Update Stack Package refreshes will improve the Windows Update experience, but Microsoft has previously explained that the packages will be deployed to improve the stability of OS servicing when a monthly or feature update is around the corner.

If things go according to plan—and they usually do these days—these refreshed versions will be released into the production channel following the release of Windows 11 version 22H2, also known as Sun Valley 2, later this fall.
