At a special event today, Microsoft officially unveiled the Windows 11 operating system. The new OS brings along a selection of new features focused on UI and productivity.
In the latter column, we have confirmation is bringing native support for Android apps in Windows 11.
The company has teamed up with Amazon to make this a reality. The applications will be delivered via the Amazon App Store that will be available under the Microsoft Store. The Intel Bridge technology will be used to enable the Android app integration with the operating system.
Redmond did not go into the technical details at the event, so we’ll have to wait a while before we get to know the specifics of this integration.
Users will be able to download and install Android apps like TikTok, Pinterest, and Kindle. And they will act like Windows apps, with users having the ability to resize them, pin them to the taskbar, and snap with other apps.
Partnering with Amazon means that users will miss out on Google suite of apps and services, and it is not clear whether Google applications and Google Play service will actually come to Windows 11.
With the first official preview build of Windows 11 expected to land for Insiders next week, we’ll hopefully have more answers about this anticipated integration.
