Business is about to pick up! Microsoft Edge rollout has gained steam lately, with the software titan making available its web browser via Windows Update for all to download.
Amidst all this, the company has been found to be a little too eager when it comes to its new browser. Understandably, as these still are early days for Edge, and the software titan wants to get as big a start as possible right out the gates.
Competition in this space is restless.
And let’s just say that it’s a tall task making people switch their browsers once they decide on one. No wonder, Redmond is hustling to make its competitor to Google Chrome more broadly available.
The software titan has announced that education and business devices will now also start receiving the Microsoft Edge web browser. Both these users were excluded from the original rollout that began earlier this month.
That said, this change will not impact enterprises that manage updates via two of its focused services, namely Windows Update for Business (WUfB) and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
Interestingly, the legacy version of Edge will be replaced for education devices first to accommodate back-to-school timing. The technology giant touts online security as the primary reason for initiating the switch to the new web browser.
The firm adds that it will provide a detailed timeline for when business users will begin seeing the update to replace Edge Legacy with Chromium Edge.
