If there is a time to make a move it’s now. For those of you who have been on the fence when it comes to moving to Microsoft’s newest operating system, this is as good a time as any.

Redmond’s extra special discount is set to expire in a couple of days.

Starting February 1, Windows 8 will no longer be available at $39.99 — Microsoft will raise the price tag to a wicked $119.99. The Windows 8 Pro version will be hiked to $199.99, by the way.

Additionally, the Windows 8 Media Center Pack (which is free actually until January 31) will cost $9.99 after this promotion ends.

Windows 8 was released to immense fanfare with Microsoft setting aside a lump of cash for marketing of its newest OS. In fact, it would be harsh to call Windows 8 just an operating system — it is a bold new platform and Microsoft’s bid to merge the world of desktop and mobile together.

Still, even though Redmond celebrated 60 million Windows 8 licenses sold earlier this month, reports say that the company is internally somewhat disappointed with the number.

How these new prices affect sales of the latest OS will be evident in the near future, but near present makes it pretty clear that those that plan on upgrading to Windows 8 should do so as soon as possible.
