Codename Tiara, that is. Word on the street was that HTC is getting ready to launch a new Windows Phone 8 powered smartphone for the year, and a company executive recently did confirm the plans.

The vice president for Global Product Planning at HTC, Tai Ito, talked to CNET during the Mobile World Congress trade show this week:

“We are actually fully committed to our Windows Phone business. We do have good collaboration with Microsoft for a future release this year. I understand that Windows Phone 8 is not as good as the market expected, we think that it could take time and we will continue working with them.”

This is, obviously, while the company announced its new Android flagship, the HTC One. Still, the company had expressed its desire to help Microsoft’s fledging new mobile platform grow.

And now details are emerging that HTC will indeed bring out a new Windows Phone 8 device. The folks over at Unwiredview have unearthed what they believe are the alleged technical specs of this new Windows Phone 8 smartphone, which goes by the codename of tiara.

The phone is supposed to pack a 1.2GHz Snapdragon CPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage along with 8 megapixel rear and 1.6 megapixel front facing camera. An 1800mAh battery is also included.

If these specifications hold, this could very well be a midrange Windows Phone 8 smartphone — one that could be heading to Sprint, as the carrier had announced a while back that it would be launching new Windows Phone 8 devices from HTC.

The year 2013 has seen some great new models already from several vendors, and this could only mean good news for the Windows Phone 8 platform in its quest to cover all price ranges.
