Microsoft continues its gracious giveaways. This time the company has announced a content deal for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 users to treat themselves to a free Audible audiobook.

As you may recall, Redmond announced a similar promotion back in March for Windows 8 owners to get some free ebooks and digital magazine issues from Barnes and Noble’s Nook app. Windows Phone 8 users were left behind in that deal — this time, however, they are invited.

Kristina Libby shared the news over at the Windows Experience blog, along with her love for books:

“New Audible customers who register with Audible through the Windows 8 or Windows Phone app will receive a free book (no subscription or credit card required).”

People who download the Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8 version of Amazon’s Audible app will be able to download (and listen!) to a free audiobook from a list of three titles.

First up is the classic novel The Great Gatsby — and with the movie adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s unforgettable novel set to arrive in theaters next month, this will probably be the most popular choice. The audiobook version of The Great Gatsby normally retails for $14.95.

The two other audiobooks in this list include the novel The Power Trip (Jackie Collins, $27.99) and the autobiography American Sniper (US Navy Seal sniper Chris Kyle, $23.61).

Audible, actually gives away a free audiobook whenever people sign up for the service, but this is obviously a special collaboration that includes three popular titles that are not typically offered for free.

The only catch — wait for it — is that this offer is only limited to users in the United States.

Bummer! Just when you thought things were getting interesting.

Nevertheless, Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8 users in the United States can stop reading right about now, install the app on their preferred platform, choose their title, and download the free audiobook. This limited time special promotion offer is set to expire on May 13.
