Hand it to developer tools to break out some of the more juicy facts. Developer tools and web analytics are two things that have confirmed many software technologies and hardware devices before their respective vendors made them official.
And today it is the turn of Windows Phone 8, Microsoft’s popular mobile platform.
Windows Phone 8 has long been rumored to add support for full HD resolution screens before the end of this year, and now some confirmation seems to have emerged in this regard, thanks to Visual Studio 2013, which was previewed last week.
As WPCentral notes, the information comes from Justin Angel who used to work with both Nokia and Microsoft. In a recent tweet, Angel says:
“Good news everybody! WP8 emulator files in Visual Studio 2013 reveal 1080p emulator! Resolution 1080×1920.”
This should definitely please a lot of fans of Windows Phone 8 devices.
Plus here’s hoping that things just don’t stop here, and Microsoft has included support for a few standard resolutions beyond 1080p. Word is that several partners are working on developing Windows Phone 8 phablets and large screen smartphones.
And resolutions beyond this just may come in handy in certain cases.
Nevertheless, all signs point to Microsoft adding support for full HD resolution in the upcoming Windows Phone 8 GDR3 platform release — which itself is on track for either late 2013 or early 2014.

I used the emulator in visual studio 2013 with a quad core SoC, and 1.5GB of RAM. It made the tegra 4 + snapdragon 800 look slow. With dual core, it got 880 milliseconds, and with quad core, 341ms. So this would be about the performance of a Snapdragon S4 Pro.
VS 2013 probably has GDR3.
