The past week or so has seen a bit of a flurry of high profile Windows 8 apps make their debut on the Windows Store. And one of the best news ones is Rockmelt, essentially a news aggregator.

Think of this as your personal newsfeed that brings the best of the Internet to your Windows 8 PC or device. Everything from Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, blogs, magazines, videos, YouTube and RSS Reader feeds make the cut.

Before we get ahead, here is a selection from the detailed official description:

“Rockmelt puts the best of the web at your fingertips, now designed specifically for Windows 8. You’ll depend on Rockmelt to discover and share the most viral, newsworthy, cute, interesting, and otherwise awesome stuff on the web. On Rockmelt, you’ll find new stories faster and more sites to love. Before you know it, you’ll run faster, jump higher, be cooler, and internet better!”

The free application comes with an overly simple yet uncluttered interface that is completely optimized for touch. The emphasis is obviously on delivering content, but some social treatment is built in that allows sharing opinions with friends using emoticons and more.

Nevertheless, Rockmelt makes use of exclusive Windows 8 features like Live Tiles, Corners, Swiping, Pinning and Snap View. It is available for download on all versions of the operating system, including both 32 and 64 bits, as well as ARM.
