Microsoft told The Verge that between August 4th and August 29th customers in Canada, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the US will pay $100 less for Surface Pro.
Their quote:
“We’ve been seeing great worldwide success with Surface RT pricing and keyboard-cover promotions over the past several months and are proud to offer Surface Pro at more affordable prices starting today.”
The 10 percent price cut to Surface Pro reduces the cost of the 64GB and 128GB models by $100 each in the US.
That brings the prices of the Microsoft Surface Pro to the following prices:

I guess my question to you all is, at these prices, do you think a Surface Pro tablet is worth it?
Also, are you planning to wait for the next generation of Surface devices?

Shit.
I will take a lot more than $100 to get me to pick this tablet up.

pricing is still too high… and I don’t like windows 8 or 8.1.
Too little, too late
i would be willing to pick one up for $400 until then no thanks!
When you hear you can buy one from Microsoft at a conference for 400 for 128GB model; it is hard to pay anything more. That is without the keyboard and yes you have to pay for the conference…
Bring the price down to 350.00 maybe then!
No, maybe for 350.00 and not with windows 8 or 8.1
This price is much better. Essentially it is the same price as before but with a free keyboard. The people who say it should be $350 or $400 are nuts. Where the heck else are you going to get a full blown laptop for that price?
You can get full blown laptops for $350…
🙂
Maybe it is just that I haven’t found any that I liked or made me take notice….
Walmart has ultrabooks and various laptops with i-3 and i5 processors from intel which windows 8 that are under $400. But i must partially agree, convertibles won’t be coming down in price until 8.1 release later this year
The price should be lower, $100 is not enough for the shortcomings of the Surface. I used an RT and the Pro extensively, and it it cumbersome to use as a tablet, the Pro is too heavy. As a laptop, the Pro’s kickstand only allows for desktop use. Let’s not forget the stylus should have had a hole to place it in, not stick on the side. Oh, almost forget the heat the gets uncomfortable on the Pro in the back. It gets WAY too hot.
Understand these aren’t small nit-picky points, they are certified flaws reported by many, and kept me away from the Surface. I am a Microsoft certified consultant, and long die hard fan, but Microsoft screwed up on the Surface, with fit, form, focus, and marketing. Perhaps round 2 they get it?

The Surface Pro is in line with an Ultra book but I believe both are overpriced unless you really need that power and other portable feature. I purchased an Asus low end laptop with Win 8 and a touch screen for $360. It is NOT a high end unit. However the touch screen is nice and responsive. I can use all the normal Windows programs. I believe the new price point is reasonable if your comparing to an Ultrabook but not if you comparing to a good semi high end laptop with comparable specs. You can get a nice one of similar power and performance for $650.
@Onuora, I personally do not have a problem with Microsoft making a buck, but ultimately this is more than making one in this critical phase of the game. They needed to gain some traction first, then upped the ante a bit once it became a player. They lost that momentum immediately at the previous price points. The smart thing would be to skip the discount, wait until Round 2 comes out and see how serious they are marketing (pricing) Surface during the upcoming holiday sales season, with a strategic eye on the future. They can still make a case for Surface if they don’t Apple-ize the consumer cost. Get the numbers first, I say! Don’t try to sell us a $10 hamburger. The competition is too great for that. Keep the end-game in focus and make the Surface something we NEED.
Yeah I think they made that strategic mistake. They should have started at $499 and $599.
Won’t it be interesting to see what the originals sell for once the newer versions hit the streets? Hah!
The Surface Pro is and was expensive with a shorter than useful battery life. With rumors that a new version with a better battery life and Haswell chip means that a $100 discount will seem like a bargain for Microsoft once the Surface Pro 2 ‘surfaces’ and those who saved a $100 now will be kicking themselves when they see what they would have been able to buy if they’d just had a little patience.
The Pro (128gb) should be priced at $799. I think it to high at present price. At the lower price volume will pick up.
The Surface Pro 2 should have the higher capacity storages + a type cover for the same price.
I was hoping to pay $750 for the basic Pro WITH keyboard. I won’t pay any more.
