Windows Phone owners have been waiting with abated breath for news of the rollout of the GDR3 update to the mobile platform. The good news is that there are signs that point to the fact that the anticipated update is in the final stages of development.
Following a few recently disclosed details about the General Distribution Release 3 (GDR3) update, come these leaked images that show the Nokia Lumia 920 and 520 running the Lumia Bittersweet Shimmer.
This is the fancier name of the GDR3 update for Nokia devices, much like the Amber update.
WMPowerUser reports that the Lumia 920 had recently been spotted in Vietnam running a peculiarly strange version of Windows Phone 8 — one that shows an extra row of tiles, which were previously only thought to be available on the company’s upcoming phablet, the Lumia 1520.
Now it appears that the above mentioned Lumia Bittersweet Shimmer update brings support for an extra row of tiles to smartphone that have a display that does not support full HD 1080p resolution.
The display of battery percentage is also another thing that fans of have clamoring for, and it seems that it will make the cut in the GDR3 update, as seen from these leaked photos.
Other leaked photos via WinPhoneViet show the settings menu of the Start screen, with a multitude of new options that allow changing of the background and color schemes of the phone, along with Color Themes and using the default icon.
Word is that the GDR3 update will soon undergo testing and quality control, and start landing on devices in late 2013 — think the end of November, or even December.
