Feeling a little inspired? Have some creative juices flowing? What would you say to a little do-it-yourself project of creating a Windows 8 Live Tile with a custom artistic clock? This nifty little app allows you to do just that.

Heftily titled, Clock Tile DIY is a free version of a paid clock app that allows you to combine various elements to create your very own clock, which can then be placed on your Start Screen as a Live Tile. Plenty of customization options are offered — some of them very powerful ones.

Before we get to the details, here is the official description:

“Totally free to make your own clock live tile on the Windows 8’s Start Screen. Put digital/analog clock, countdown and many other items at any position you like on the tile. You can choose lots of clock-tiles with hundreds of Art Font styles, set background color & pictures.”

The main displayed time is local time of your Windows 8 device, though there are options to set custom time using time zones (UTC). The time on the clocks is updated every minute, and you also get the possibility of setting a day countdown to an event.

Multiple Live Tile sizes can be created, a few of them exclusive to Windows 8.1. All versions of Microsoft’s modern operating systems are supported, including ARM based ones.
