How to preorder your new Surface tablet from your local Microsoft Store

So the new Microsoft Surface 2 and Surface Pro tablets will be available early next week.

There are a few ways you can preorder your new surface tablet. First of all you could preorder it online from Best Buy or the Microsoft Store.

I just found a much easier way to do it.

You can simply do a search on the Microsoft Store page for your local Microsoft Store.

It should be in the top right hand side of the sales page.

In my case, it automatically identifies the nearest store to my geographical location (Pasadena, California). That’s the Glendale Store.

Next, you click on the location and it takes you to the homepage for the store.

You can call the 855 number and that takes you to the national center where you explain what you want.

Once they determine you want to preorder hardware from your local store, the operator transfers you to someone at the local store.

The local person took down my name and address. They already had me in the system so they were able to identify me and they sent me an email receipt.

The whole thing took 2 minutes.

No credit card information needed, just my name and my address and now I have a receipt to pick up my device from the store.

2 minutes!

Very well done….

  • I am currently in San Francisco and ordered mine last Wednesday. I am also going to a midnight launch party at the Microsoft Store on Market Steet in downtown SF and will leave with my Surface for the trip home.

          • Hi Onuora,
Just wanted to let you know, I have spent most of the day reading about Surface 2 from Ed Bott, Mary Jo Foley, Paul Thurrott, people from the Verge, Mashable, and Cnet. They all say Surface 2 is a hands down improvement over Surface RT, BUT…..and it seems there are to many BUTS to not take notice.

I wanted to take pictures and send them in to you, but I apologize I will not be able to deliver on that request at this time. This is all very disappointing to me but life goes on.

I have made the following decisions,

            1. I cancelled my pre-order 🙁
            2. Will not be attending the midnight launch party on recommendation of the Korean Consulate here in SF. Consulate Security said that area of downtown is not safe at that hour even with security.
            3. Will hold off on getting Surface 2 and watch how consumer reviews are going and of reported sales over the next couple of months.
            4. Cannot justify Surface Pro 2 price with everybody pointing out its limitations.
            4. Leave for Seoul (Inchon) on Wednesday morning.
            5. Be back in SF in Dec. maybe then things will be different.

          • Damn dude! You’re cancelling your order?

Thats a little extreme. Yeah I read the reviews on the Verge and I’m a little saddened. I’ll have a review on here tomorrow..

Watch people blame me for being negative 🙂

            Have a great flight!

          • Since I consider you a highly trusted source, I will make sure and see your review tomorrow.
            Thanks
