In what is a somewhat unceremonious unveiling, Nokia has just made its newest Windows Phone 8 powered handset official. The affordable Lumia 525 has been in the news these past month or two, from leaked press renders to hardware specifications.
The smartphone recently got certified in China, some two weeks ago, but pricing and availability details were under wraps until now. But today Nokia has listed the device on its official website.
And the Nokia Lumia 525 page confirms that it will be hitting store shelves in a number of markets in Africa, Middle East and the Asia Pacific — though the price tag of the phone is still not out. However it is reasonable to expect that it will be in the same range as the Lumia 520.
This new handset, obviously, bears striking similarities to its predecessor.
It comes with a similar feature set, save for memory which has been upgraded to 1GB on the Lumia 525 from the 512MB on the Lumia 520. Meaning no more worries about some high end games not being compatible due to lower RAM capacity.
Other than that, there are no noticeable differences between the two sets.
Nokia has also confirmed that the Lumia 525 will sport a 4-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a display resolution of 800 by 480 — good enough for a 235ppi pixel density.
Similarly, the smartphones is equipped with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 clocked at 1GHz.
The Finnish telecom titan has mentioned a 1430 mAh Li-Ion battery that should provide around 14 days of standby time, and up to 17 hours of talk time. Complete availability and pricing details are incoming, but word is that it will launch in Singapore on December 14 for $200 outright.
Other markets should expect a similar (and very, very attractive) deal.
