For the outsider looking in, it may seem that Redmond has a rather slow pace of opening new retail outlets, particularly international locations. But the going for Microsoft is good, if not outright great.

In fact, the company has confirmed that no less than 35 new Microsoft Stores started operations in North America this year, in the process bringing the total number of such locations to 83. That is almost three stores a month, one every ten days.

Not bad for what was primarily a software company a few years ago.

Microsoft offered an update on its retail business, saying:

“Over the past 12 months, we opened 35 stores and now have 83 full-line and specialty stores open across North America. We have welcomed more than 362 million customers to our full-line, specialty and online Microsoft Store properties in more than 200 markets worldwide.”

And the company has no plans of slowing down. It wants more stores in the United States.

Three new locations are set to open in early 2014 — one in Square One Shopping Centre, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, another in Westfarms, Farmington, Connecticut, and the final one in Westfield Garden State Plaza, Paramus, New Jersey.

All these locations will bring its latest hardware and software products closer to buyers, from the newest Windows 8.1 powered devices to Xbox One, Office and accessories.

Not bad for what was primarily a software company a few years ago, not bad at all.
