claimed that the next full version of Microsoft’s flagship operating system is primed for release in 2014 — Microsoft plans to stick with the regular refresh cycle. In fact, the beta build of Windows 9 will be launched by Redmond in May, while a release candidate is on track for release in either August or September. The final RTM version of Windows 9, then, could go live sometime between October 21 and October 25. Public launch will follow soon afterwards, according to this new report. Wzor has a bit of a track record for predictions like these, but at the end of the day this is another prediction, we have no official confirmation from Microsoft of any sorts whatsoever. Still, this is not the first time we have heard of Windows 9 launching this year — this was reported to be the case back in late 2012 too when Windows 8 first launched. So there might just be some truth in it. More details should be with us after the BUILD conference in April.]]>

  • This would be completely ridiculous to do. What is the rush? Give people time to react to Update 1. Offer some big sales on Windows 8.x and Windows 8.x devices trough the summer and fall, then worry about releasing Windows 9. Trying to rush things just makes everything look worse.

    • this may sound crazy but what if this is all a test run for windows 9? I mean they have not confirmed a update one even exists. Some articles said it would come out this month. Now it’s pushed back 2 more months and windows 9 beta is barely a month after that… I know ms will say a lot at their show but man I wish they would confirm something. So much speculation and rumors of windows update/ windows 9.

      • With every release, things from the BGOS (internal MS group who makes Windows) get more and more secretive. Even when on the Win8 project, we knew very little about the OS because BGOS wouldn’t share. They’re afraid of leaks from all angles.

  • Curious if MSFT is saying 8.1 is akin to Vista (due to less than stellar sales) – especially with this new OS (Win9) coming out so quickly. Makes you wonder…
