As Winnie the Pooh would say, think, think, think! Microsoft has sunk a titanic $1 billion in an artificial intelligence lab that is working on technology that can mimic the brain.
Human brain, of course.
The Redmond based technology giant has teamed up with OpenAI, in a bid to further extend Azure capabilities in large scale AI systems.
Yes, this is the same AI company that Elon Musk founded and then quit.
The keyword here being the laboratory’s efforts to crate artificial general intelligence (AGI), and Microsoft is going all in to create new solutions to deliver on the promise of this remarkable new technology.
As Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft put it:
“AI is one of the most transformative technologies of our time and has the potential to help solve many of our world’s most pressing challenges. By bringing together OpenAI’s breakthrough technology with new Azure AI supercomputing technologies, our ambition is to democratize AI — while always keeping AI safety front and center — so everyone can benefit.”
The resulting enhancements to the Azure platform will help developers build the next generation of AI applications, and both Microsoft and OpenAI will jointly build these AI supercomputing technologies.
Microsoft will also become the preferred partners for OpenAI as it moves to commercialize new AI technologies.
Both firms will concentrate on constructing a Computer Platform in Azure to educate and operate artificial intelligence models, including hardware technologies.
