Quite amazing what a little rebranding and a push in the right direction can do for an application. The launch of the Outlook app on the App Store is just another proof of this notion.

Microsoft released a new app yesterday on the iOS platform — the official Outlook client to help people manage their inboxes. It features many of the same features as the desktop program, though it was obviously developed by Acompli, the company that Redmond acquired last year.

Although the software titan does not make any money from this application, it serves to help keep the Outlook brand relevant in the minds of the consumers.

And consumers seem to have taken to these newest solution in droves.

The application has done particularly well on the Apple App Store. The company featured it on their landing page under the ‘Best New Apps’ section, which helped it climb the charts.

It is currently sitting on the 15th position in the ‘Top Free’ chart — and has been on a steady climb. And with more than 1,200 reviews, many of them positive, the official Outlook client has a four star rating as of this writing.

Impressive overall, considering iOS actually has a default mail application.

Outlook on the Google Play store has not seen this level of success, though. But at least it has more than 2,500 reviews on the Android platform, with again, an overall rating of four stars.

Baby steps, I guess.

Still an official Outlook application is a nice addition to the mobile world, and fingers crossed Microsoft keeps it regularly updated with new features and enhancements.
