Microsoft giveth, Microsoft taketh away! It was just last week that the software titan unveiled a new option for Windows Insiders that were enrolled in the Fast ring of the program.
One that enabled them to skip ahead from the current wave of builds, and hop directly onto those from the next Windows 10 development branch. By choosing the Skip Ahead option, these Insiders would have been able to get builds from the Redstone 4 branch, the first major Windows 10 update for 2018.
Would have been — because the software titan had made it crystal clear that only a limited number of Insiders will be able to take advantage of this new Skip Ahead option.
And apparently, that limit is reached.
While the option still appears in the Windows Insider Program settings, it is sans the ability to sign up. Instead, Insiders are treated with this message instead:
“Skip Ahead is now closed. If you select this option going forward, you will have your Windows Insider Program settings reverted.”
So, it seems that those who managed to enroll themselves in the Skip Ahead ring will get the earliest Redstone 4 builds, and others will miss out on this early access. If you did, and want to drop down to a more stable channel, then the Fast, Slow and Release Preview rings are always open for business.
Basically, the early option to get access to Redstone 4 builds is now closed.
Once the Fall Creators Update is ready for action, Microsoft will begin pushing the Redstone 4 preview builds to all Insiders.
Quite possibly sometimes in September.
