Mark your calendars, folks! Microsoft, at its briefing at the IFA 2017 conference today, announced the release date of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

The newest version of the operating system arrives on PCs October 17.

As the official announcement reveals, the fourth major update to Windows 10 is focused on creating a platform that inspires user creativity. And it will introduce a number of new features and improvements to existing ones, as well as opening the gates to the Windows Mixed Reality platform.

Terry Myerson, the EVP of Windows and Devices Group at the software titan:

“We are coming up on our fourth major update to Windows 10, and our mission with these updates is to create a platform that inspires your creativity. We see students playing and learning with Minecraft, lawyers creating with words, accountants painting with numbers, designers sharing their ideas with slides, and engineers crafting in code. Creativity is universal and it’s aspirational in its nature.”

Apart from creativity, Fall Creators Update comes with a range of improvements that just want to get things done. Productivity enhancements like enhancements to Windows Ink, OneDrive placeholders, a redesigned Action Center, as well as amped up security with Windows Defender are the highlights.

As is a Fluent Design, a new user interface philosophy that the company is pursuing across the OS.

Myerson continues:

“Our mission at Microsoft is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more, one of the ways we’re supporting that mission is by taking this next step in our Windows journey and empowering the creator in all of us with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.”

Solid stuff.

As always, while the October 17 date is when Microsoft will officially start rolling out this new version, in stages, most likely, the final build will be available much sooner for Insiders, just like before. At least, a couple of weeks early, if nothing else.
