Looks like Microsoft wants users give its Edge web browser a chance, as the company has forced the Mail app in Windows 10 to open links only using its own browser.
Redmond implemented this controversial change in the Windows 10 build 17623 that made its way to Skip Ahead earlier today, which is basically an early preview version of the Redstone 5 update that itself is some six months away from launch.
But that’s not stopping the software titan from testing some new features.
As Dona Sarkar, the head of the Windows Insider Program made clear in a blog post, Edge provides the best, most secure and consistent experience on Windows 10 and across your devices.
Hence, it’s time to give the web browser a chance.
The only problem is that not everyone feels that way. Users have set Firefox, Chrome, or something entirely different as their default choice. And Microsoft wants to subvert that in order to get them to use its in-house solution.
Of course, this is not the first time the company has done something like this in Windows 10.
It previously locked down Cortana so that the digital assistant only worked with Bing and Edge. Then when it launched Windows 10 S, it made sure that users did not even have the option of switching their default browser or search engine in this new variant of the operating system.
Luckily, the software titan is only testing this feature.
So, if you don’t like it, then make sure you let the company know.
Because, it probably will be rolled out via an update to the Mail & Calendar app anytime and pushed through to all users, even though this is still part of the Redstone 5 build.
