Additions like these makes one wonder why they were not there from the start. Anyway, Microsoft has just announced game gifting of digital PC games, one of the more requested of features.

This means that Windows 10 users can now purchase game as gifts from the Microsoft Store.

Just like Xbox One users have been able to, since last year.

There are a few caveats here, like Xbox 360 and original Xbox games not included in the program, while codes can only be redeemed in the country or region they were purchased. Plus, as far as discounted products are concerned, only a maximum of 10 are allowed every 14 days.

Though users will have the ability to get as many gifts as they want at the full price.

Still, this is how Microsoft explains it:

“Many PC games are available for gifting today, May 10, and all games should be available for gifting by Friday, May 11. We are hard at work on improving digital gifting, adding new capabilities as well as support for new content types. We look forward to bringing you updates on the gifting of paid PC and Xbox apps soon.”

Pretty neat.

Gifting is easy, as you can see from the image below:

You simply choose the option that says Buy as Gift and enter the email address of the gift recipient. Or if that person is an Xbox user, you can input his or her Gamertag and have the title delivered automatically with a clickable redemption button.

The receiver will get an email that includes instructions on how to redeem the code in the Microsoft Store and download the game.

A late arrival, but one that is still, very welcome.
