Looks like Microsoft has a few design changes in store for the Windows 10 Mail and Calendar app, with the company now testing out some improvements to the user interface.
The company may be focused on the fresh new light theme that will arrive with the forthcoming 19H1 release of the operating system, but that does not mean that it is done with the dark theme that is now a certified fan favorite.
An Italian blog was the first to notice this.
Basically, the new UI has the dark theme applied to more elements of the user interface in both programs — including the message body, as well as composer in the Mail app and the event creation interface in the Calendar app.
This is how it looks:
In addition to applying the dark theme more widely, Redmond is also making it easier to toggle between light and dark themes in the apps. A toggle button will sit alongside other actions like replying to a message, meaning it will be possible to switch on the fly between the looks.
Apparently, the update is now rolling out to Insiders on the Fast Ring or Skip Ahead for testing, but it probably will be a while before everyone gets access to these improvements.
Hopefully, the company also adds an option for follow operating system settings for apps that support the light and dark themes, so that users don’t have to manually make these changes on their applications every time they change their look.
