Greetings! Microsoft recently turned on the switch for the October Update for Power BI Desktop, which brought new default themes and performance improvements for multidimensional and DirectQuery models, among other features.
That was last month.
Later in September, Redmond released a new version for Power BI on-premises data gateway, bringing that solution more in line with the changes that it introduced to the desktop flavor of this enterprise focused platform.
And now, the software titan has put up a feature summary that highlights what users can expect from the latest version of Power BI Desktop.
The company also provided a video that showcase the major new features in more details:
Find out all you want to know about automatic page refreshing for DirectQuery, the complete Q&A revamp, as well as general availability for some new connectors in the video and changelog that are listed above.
Another notable highlight is the introduction of Query Diagnostics. Not to mention, updates to the visuals, along with a new file format, and overall performance improvements.
For example, performance improvements up to 20 times have been noted in the Analysis Service engine that has been enhanced to speed up modeling operations. The actual improvements will vary, obviously, based on the type of model and operations being performed.
