Now, this is an interesting new high concept development I can get behind. As the saying goes, if you are doing something, it pays to do it right. And Microsoft seems to be on the right track here.
Redmond decided to implement fingerprint support for logging into Windows 8.1, and the news of this first came out a couple of weeks back. But according to a new report this particular feature is set to be greatly enhanced with plenty of options throughout the operating system.
The Verge writes that the fingerprint reader support in Windows 8.1 will come with options to lock down some of the locally stored folders as well as applications installed on a specific device.
And that’s not all, folks — Microsoft is also reportedly planning to further extend this feature to other areas of the operating system, including the Windows Store.
Users can lock app purchases from the Store using the same fingerprint support.
Microsoft believes that this new feature will spur and encourage PC makers to develop more devices featuring fingerprint readers after the launch of Windows 8.1. Stephen Rose of Microsoft was quoted as saying:
“You’ll begin to see these be more pervasively available just to make it that much easier to log in to Windows.”
Now obviously, this is something that requires support from the hardware vendors. But this is, nevertheless, an additional layer of security for Windows 8.1 computers. And this is something that could potentially gain widespread usage in the near future, at least on tablets and notebooks.
What about you guys? Excited about this interesting new development? Microsoft will probably share more details on this feature later this month, but in the meantime speak your mind using the comment box below, and whether you see yourself using the fingerprint feature regularly?

The fingerprint scanner on my laptop is something I almost immediately disabled for being annoying and problematic. I would actually consider using it if these features were enabled.
