While Redmond talked in great detail about Windows 8.1 and its future plans at BUILD, the technology titan is currently throwing around some rather interesting details at the Worldwide Partner Conference 2013 that kicked off in Houston just a few hours back.
And when it comes to statistics and official numbers, Microsoft traditionally takes no prisoners.
Market share data may show that Windows 8 has currently raked up a 5 percent slice of the pie by June 2013, Microsoft still maintains (with good reason) that everything is going according to plan. This is a brand new platform, after all — one that should slowly find acceptance
According to Tami Reller, Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer for Windows, the company’s current platform, Windows 8, has logged no less than 60 billion hours of usage since launch.
Although the senior executive did not provide any specific updates on the number of license sold, Reller did in fact explain that Microsoft had registered 20 million enterprise evaluations — a clear sign that more businesses are now considering making the switch to Windows 8.
The company’s newest operating system will soon receive its first major refresh called Windows 8.1. A preview version of the upcoming OS is already out, and sources close to the matter indicate that the stable build of the new OS could see daylight as soon as October this year.
