Important – This doesnt stop PC makers and OEM’s from licensing the technology from Dolby directly, Microsoft are just saying that they aren’t going to be the ones paying. Second, maybe Windows Media Center will be revamped to focus on web content as opposed to DVD/CD playing. Thirdly, maybe Media Center will be cut entirely. Would you even care? I cant even remember the last time I used WMP. It might be replaced with an entirely new player. We’ll hopefully learn more at the BUILD conference…]]>

  • I think WMP is WAY underrated. Specially when it comes to watching movies. Now, I’m no expert in the field, but I used VLC player for some time, because everybody said it was the best. But when it comes to watching movies, WMP is WAY better (image quality wise)!

  • The windows media player is good if you have cable and a tv tuner , cuz then you watch tv on a pc intead of buying a tv and you could also record tv with media center.

  • I agree with Handa. WMP seems to have a far clearer picture than VLC for some reason. The only downside is the inability to crop movies in 2.25:1 to 16:9 and the spacebar-to-pause shortcut (that I think can be mapped anyway, but it’s just a hassle).
As for playing CD/DVDs – I didn’t realise many people still did that anyway. DVDs were essentially obsolete (when they came out for me anyway).
