Been quite some time since we’ve heard a success story for Windows tablets, but here is one to brighten things up. Alaska Airlines is the latest company to introduce these slates on its flights.
At least, some of its flights.
The company announced that these Windows powered tablets will provide access to games and videos on long distance journeys, meaning they will be available on the carrier’s long-haul flights. Starting February 1.
Access to movies, TV shows, music and magazines will be provided, along with internet access where available. These tablets will also come preloaded with a few Xbox games for Windows.
Think Microsoft Sudoku, Solitaire Collection and Mahjong and all that casual stuff.
But while top tier frequent fliers and passengers in first class will be able to enjoy the tablets free of charge, other passengers will be required to pay for the privilege. The rent of one tablet for the duration of the flight is anywhere between $8 and $10.
Passengers will also be able to user their own devices to access the onboard entertainment service. Some content will be free, of course, but prices for premium content like movies and TV shows will start at $1.99.
Good option for people that don’t have their own devices, and another win for Windows powered tablets. Let’s just hope complimentary headphones are provided with the devices!
