Digitimes is reporting that Apple is developing a $799 addition to it’s highly successful Macbook Air line. The new, more affordable laptop line will reportedly be available in the third quarter of this year.

Currently, Apple’s 11-inch 64GB MacBook Air is priced at US$999 with a 128GB version priced at US$1,199. The 13-inch 128GB version is priced at US$1,299 and 256GB version is US$1,599. If Apple decides to launch a US$799 MacBook Air, the sources believe the strategy will damage Ultrabooks allowing Apple to continue to press its advantage.
What do you think? If you could get an Apple Air for $799, would you say no and buy a Windows 8 Ultrabook? Use the comments below and let us know…]]>

  •  I’d call this a win- apple being forced to change their current marketing strategies in order to compete. I don’t much like MBAs, the design turns me off, but I like where this is going.

  • Why and how would Apple do this? No way the SSD could be smaller, and Apple will not put low end CPUs in their products. I say this is bunk and can’t and won’t be done.

  • Apple products are seemed to be high end and luxury nowadays….no way to produce a low end one. but maybe they will design a more powerful MacBook Air and low the old model price.
