FedEx has teamed up with Microsoft on a major partnership focused on improving the end-to-end commerce experience globally, and reinventing the most critical aspects of the experience.

Both Azure and Dynamics 365 will be at the center of this team up.

Microsoft will help FedEx introduce new offerings that make use of its expertise in cloud and data, while the company’s analytics solutions will also play a major part in this endeavor. IoT and AI will also be at the forefront.

Frederick W. Smith, chairman and CEO of FedEx:

“FedEx has been reimagining the supply chain since our first day of operation, and we are taking it to a new level with today’s announcement. Together with Microsoft, we will combine the immense power of technology with the vast scale of our infrastructure to help revolutionize commerce and create a network for what’s next for our customers.”

Along with this new partnership, FedEx has also announced FedEx Surround, the first solution resulting from this collaboration. It will help businesses enhance their supply chain by providing them with near real-time analytics into shipment tracking.

Businesses that depend on time-sensitive deliveries like hospital and manufacturing plants will find this particularly helpful.

FedEx Surround will make use of proprietary IoT technology from FedEx, and collect data points through enhanced scanning. These will then be analyzed using the power of the Microsoft cloud infrastructure, including the AI and analytics solutions on Azure.

The two companies have promised to share more information regarding FedEx Surround in the beginning of summer.

Both firms will also announce additional solutions as part of their collaboration that will leverage even more Microsoft technologies, including Dynamics 365.
