This particular update is aimed at both the RTM and Preview versions of Windows 8.1 — the company seems to be aware that a rather large number of users have installed its upcoming OS.
And with the recent TechNet and MSDN availability, the number is only set to grow.
The KB2880289 bulletin fixes a flaw discovered in Adobe Flash Player for Internet Explorer 11, and is aimed at PCs and devices that are running both the 32-bit and 64-bit RTM flavors of Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1.
Microsoft made a brief mention of this in its security advisory:
“The update is also available for Internet Explorer 11 Preview in Windows 8.1 Preview and Windows RT 8.1 Preview releases, as well as for Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 releases. The update is available via Windows Update.”
As is usually the case with most other patches that Microsoft releases, this first ever fix for Windows 8.1 RTM is delivered via the built-in Windows Update feature.
If you have installed the RTM version of the operating system, all you have to do is to ensure that you are connected to the Internet, and the update will be automatically deployed.
