Microsoft may have embraced inking in Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update back in 2016, but the company sure is taking its sweet time in adding support for pen input across its apps.
Including one place where most users would expect it to be, the Mail app.
According to some new intelligence, the software titan is now rolling out a new update to the application, bringing the app to version 16005.10228.20091.0. This refreshed version is now available to Insiders in the Fast Ring of the preview program.
And it introduces a Draw tab in the compose, which lets users ink up messages using a variety of tools with different colors and patterns.
Oh, and as is the norm with Microsoft these days, the company is testing this feature via A/B testing, meaning it is not available for everyone. However, once Redmond is satisfied, we can expect it to be rolled out for all users.
Speaking of, it is not exactly limited when it comes to hardware.
Despite being aimed at touchscreen and pen users, the feature is actually available for any device. What this means is that if you want to draw using a mouse or trackpad, you can, and messages created using ink will be sent to the recipients at PNG files.
Sounds perfect.
Of course, another angle to this is that Microsoft is paving the way for Andromeda here.
Since this rumored device is supposed to be heavily focused on pen support, improved writing capabilities are essential for the company.
