announcing the stunning Snapdragon 615, and Intel has also jumped in the bandwagon with its own 64-bit mobile lineup. Both new processors fall in its Atom range. The Atom Z3480 comes with two 2.13GHz cores, and is based on Intel’s 22nm Silvermont microarchitecture with the PowerVR Series 6 Graphics IP core from Imagination Technologies. Merrifield devices should start hitting store shelves sometimes in the second quarter of the year. The other big announcement is Moorefield, which offers four cores clocked up to 2.3GHz. Devices powered by this chipset are scheduled for the second half of 2014, and will come with an advanced graphics processor with faster memory and LTE capabilities. Intel has also announced partnerships with Lenovo, ASUS, Dell and Foxconn — all four of which will be launching smartphones and tablets (Android and Windows) based on these new chips. Busy times ahead, that much is for sure.]]>
