Fan of Microsoft’s web browser, but yet to upgrade to Windows 8.1? Well, the company has got you covered. Redmond has just made Internet Explorer 11 available for download to Windows 7 users.
Internet Explorer 11 made its debut with Windows 8.1, as the default web browser, but now users of the most popular operating system in the world can also take the stable version of the latest IE for spin.
IE11 for Windows 7 is available in 95 languages, and Redmond will begin upgrading and push users on Windows 7 to the latest version in the coming weeks — those that have already installed the IE11 Developer and Release previews will, however, be the first in line to get these final bits.
Microsoft also used the occasion to praise the new technologies in Internet Explorer 11:
“With this final release, IE11 brings the same leading standards support–with improved performance, security, privacy, and reliability that consumers enjoy on Windows 8.1—to Windows 7 customers.
On Windows 7, IE11 is 9% faster than IE10, which is nearly 30% faster than the nearest competitive browser. The opportunities continue for HTML5 to make both websites and applications better. Those opportunities are exciting for everyone on the Web. Like IE11 on Windows 8.1, this release brings high performance HTML5 development to Windows 7.”
Redmond also claims that Internet Explorer 11 loads web applications faster, regardless of whether a user is running Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, while common web activities are also sped up.
The new release will soon be delivered via Windows Update, but manual downloads are also available.
