Hello there! While Disney may be hard at work on a new Obi-Wan Star Wars series, Kensington is hard at work launching its new fingerprint reader designed for Windows Hello on the desktop.
Windows Hello is, of course, Microsoft’s big bet for a world without passwords. In the last few years, the software titan has been pushing this feature harder and harder in order to provide users with more hardware and more choices in this regard.
Well, it just got a little help from peripheral maker Kensington that has just joined the Windows Hello game with its latest creation.
This is a fingerprint reader certified for Windows Hello, that makes it easier for users to authenticate into their Windows 10 computers without entering a password.
The company explains:
“Match-in-Sensor fingerprint technology protects unsecured fingerprint data by storing data in the sensor and only transferring an encrypted match. Exceeds industry standards for False Rejection Rate (FRR 2%) and False Acceptance Rate (FAR 0.001%).”
It is powered via USB and is compatible with Windows Hello, Windows Hello for Business, and a series of Microsoft services including the likes of such as Office 365, Azure, and Outlook. Kensington also promises watertight end-to-end security and the ability to store up to 10 fingerprints.
Complete with FIDO U2F-certified and FIDO2 WebAuthn-compatible features.
Available with a two-year warranty, this device works on Windows 10 with plug-and-play installation, and can be purchased for just $75 in the United States.
