mandatory for all Windows 8.1 users, with the reasoning that all future patches and fixes were to be built on this new version of the modern operating system. In other words, users had to install windows 8.1 Update before the Patch Tuesday updates for this month started flying off servers. However, several users had reported installation errors when trying to install Windows 8.1 Update — automatically and manually. So in a new blog post, the company has confirmed that this is the reason why the deadline is now extended to June 10, the next Patch Tuesday:
“While we believe the majority of people have received the update, we recognize that not all have. Having our customers running their devices with the latest updates is super important to us. And we’re committed to helping ensure their safety. As a result, we’ve decided to extend the requirement for our consumer customers to update their devices to the Windows 8.1 Update in order to receive security updates another 30 days to June 10.”Microsoft already released a patch last week to take care of some of the installation errors. Business users, obviously, already received a reprieve from installation, as companies and enterprises have a number of considerations to make when it comes to compatibility. Either way, this is good news all round.]]>

So first Microsoft extends XP support and now they’re extending the 8.1 installation. What’s the point of putting out deadlines if you’re going to ignore them? Seems pointless and dumb to announce these things if they won’t stand by them.
