Redmond’s momentous restructuring is currently underway. The last month or two have seen some notable changes being made to the leaders over at the company, as it tries to shift towards a devices and services concept.
But even though CEO Steve Ballmer said a few months back that no employees would be fired from Microsoft as part of the companywide reorganization, it seems that some people at the company have just received the proverbial pink slip.
It appears that a large number of editors from, MSN, the company’s news and entertainment portal will be let go in the coming months.
A report by Reuters is claiming that the technology giant has already confirmed the job cut, but no specifics are provided on the number of people that are to be fired. Insider sources, however, are reporting a sizable number.
People close to the matter have revealed that around 100 members of the staff will be leaving.
The technology titan recently revamped and overhauled its MSN portal when Windows 8 launched, with the aim of bringing it in line with crisp new modern design philosophy of the new operating system.
Anyway, this layoff is said to be a part of the reorganization that CEO Steve Ballmer recently kicked off. What is not clear, as of right now, is whether the company is also planning to cut more jobs in other departments in the near future as well.
Microsoft seems to be trimming down fat these past few months. The company recently pulled the plug off of a number of products and services, hardware and software, even subscriptions for IT professionals.
And from the way things are looking, this strategy may well continue in the future.

Microsoft does need to streamline. They just have so many employees. They also need to find a way to streamline their software. I’m sure they could find a way to shrink the size of Windows and lose no functionality.
You did mean the Windows TEAM, right @disqus_aUjJoK3PRk:disqus? You are probably correct if so, except for the ongoing policy of rapid release.
In any case, does MS really need MSN now? I suppose it has some value to pre-Windows 8/8.1 users, but with the News, Sports and Weather apps built-in to Windows 8/8.1, I hardly ever use MSN anymore. The only other major company that has a portal is Yahoo!. Google doesn’t have one (you cannot count Google+ as a portal in my opinion, since you have to have a Gmail account to use it. Which, you don’t have to sign into MSN or Yahoo! to use their portals). Just a thought.
Every other site says “Microsoft axes freelancers, contract writers at MSN” not full time employees.
