Less than nine months remain when Microsoft plans to end its official support for Windows XP, and the company is trying to get as many users off the old operating system to a newer version of Windows.

The software titan has created a slick looking infographic that does a nifty job of not only giving the Windows XP retirement party a bit of fun, but also offers a bunch of reasons for users and businesses why they should transition to Windows 8.

The infographic reads:

“Windows 8 has been reimaged to focus on your life. The new Start screen is smooth and intuitive, and gives you instant access to your people, apps, and stuff, so you spend less time searching and more time doing.”

Most of the reasons are pretty spot on — the Windows To Go feature for enterprise users, for example, that lets employees copy their image of Windows 8 onto a USB drive and run it on any Windows PC, anywhere they want.

The infographic also mentions the upcoming Windows 8.1, and highlights it quite elegantly by saying that it is a better version of Windows 8.

Windows XP, according to the latest statistics from Net Applications, is installed on more than 37 percent of all computers worldwide. The old operating system has barely lost any users last month, meaning Microsoft already has its work cut out to get that number down.

Redmond is internally hoping that the number falls down to a safer level of 10 percent, before Windows XP’s end of support date of April 8, 2014.

You can take a look at the full high-resolution version of the infographic here.

  • Not sure Many would agree that it is slick. The design looks like it was done by a 8 year old girl with a little help from her 55 year old grandfather who still thinks he is hip.
