Microsoft is here with a new file recovery app for Windows 10 that comes in handy when trying to recover files that they deleted by accident.

Called Windows File Recovery, this application looks for files that are mistakenly removed, including photos and documents that may be accidentally deleted. Along with the hard drives, it also supports external storage devices like microSD cards and more.

This is how the software titan describes this latest arrival:

“Accidentally deleted an important file? Wiped clean your hard drive? Unsure of what to do with corrupted data? Windows File Recovery can help recover your personal data.

Recovering from a camera or SD card? Try Signature mode, which expands beyond NTFS recovery and caters to your storage device needs. Let this app be your first choice for helping to find what you need from your hard drive, SSD (*limited by TRIM), USB drive, or memory cards.”

Pretty comprehensive feature set.

However, unlike most of the commercial programs out there, this one comes without a GUI. Meaning, you will have to do the deed in a command line interface. Luckily, Microsoft has put together a helpful little support page that can be used to find information about the apps and the commands.

You will need to be on Window 10 version 2004 or newer, though.

So, if your system is yet to be updated to the May 2020 Update, then you will not be able to install the app from the Microsoft Store. If it has been, then you can grab it from the link below.
