It had been rumored for more than a month, but CEO Steve Ballmer officially announced the big reorganization plan for the Redmond technology empire that he manages.
In a memo sent to the employees at 6 AM, Ballmer explained that Microsoft’s transformation is based on functions, while confirming that some high-profile executives will leave the company as part of this noteworthy reshuffle.
The internal memo — One Microsoft — is posted on Microsoft’s news page:
“Today’s announcement will enable us to execute even better on our strategy to deliver a family of devices and services that best empower people for the activities they value most and the enterprise extensions and services that are most valuable to business.”
Ballmer also talked about the company’s future plans, while detailing the functions that form the basis of Microsoft’s transformation — Engineering, Marketing, Business Development and Evangelism, Advanced Strategy and Research, Finance, HR, Legal, and COO.
At the same time, the technology titan is to be divided in four engineering units, namely Operating Systems, Applications and Services, Cloud and Enterprise, and finally, Devices and Studios.
Ballmer has made his desire to see Microsoft increase its focus on devices and services, instead of just on software on multiple times in the past. The chief executive of the technology titan would be hoping that this reshuffle would help the company get closer to this concept as it faces future challenges.
