Been a while since we’ve had some movement on the Microsoft data centers front. The company is currently working on opening a massive new one in the American state of Iowa.
At the southeast corner of West Des Moines, to be exact.
And although the technology titan has not exactly publicized the undertaking of this massive new project, the first two buildings are expected to be finalized very soon — workers are actually applying final touches to them.
This report has all the details, and apparently Redmond will invest a total of $1.1 billion in four phases on this project, which in turn is set to generate 84 full time jobs.
In fact, local authorities have even started to improve the nearby infrastructure and pave nearby roads. They have also chipped in with $87 million to improve the surroundings near the data center.
The first phase of this project is expected to be complete by this summer, provided everything goes according to plan. Microsoft wants to expand its cloud business, and this new data center is simply a part of the several such facilities across the globe.
Microsoft is also working on a new data center in the North Phoenix region.
All in preparations for Windows 10 and Windows 10 for Phones, surely. All the new users that migrate and upgrade to these new operating platforms later this year have to be catered for.
