What would a start of a new month be without news about Patch Tuesday? Microsoft has just put up the summary of the bulletins that it will release in five days.
And interestingly, it plans to roll out 14 security updates for September.
This makes it the most patches Microsoft has released in one month so far in the year — only February came close with 12 security updates. Patch Tuesday, this month, falls on September 10, for those of you keeping tabs.
These security bulletins supposed to fix flaws in a wide array of products, including Windows XP and various versions of Internet Explorer. Four of these updates are marked as “Critical”, while the remaining ten come labeled as “Important” — heavy stuff.
Redmond posted a short notification on the Microsoft Security Response Center blog.
As is usually the case, no details have been provided for user safety reasons until patches are delivered. The software titan did, however, mention that Internet Explorer, Outlook, SharePoint, and Windows are all in line to receive these updates.
This is a notably important month for Windows XP, which is set for retirement on April 8, 2014. The classic operating system will receive five different bulletins this month — all of which are supposed to patch security flaws that could expose computers and user data.
And as always, all these fixes will be delivered via the Windows Update tool that is built into all the current versions of Windows.
