Microsoft is expected to hold a new Surface event next week, and some more details about what’s on the card are now out. More specifically, regarding a couple of new members of the Surface family.

One of them is the improved Surface Pro X that presumably goes by as Surface Pro X 2.

It is said to house a new chip and upgraded specification that may even include 5G. That final fact depends on what Microsoft is feeling about adding this latest generation connectivity standard in this ARM powered machine.

Speaking of machines, the second one seems to be the real deal.

Or rather, a real steal.

A smaller Surface Laptop that could feature a 12.5-inch display, combined with an Intel processor, and hit the market at an affordable price point could well turn out to be the highlight of the event. And we may even have an idea of what it might be called.

According to the claim above, this new product is going to be called the Surface Swift.

Cool name.

Microsoft’s purpose with these two new devices is simple enough. That to expand the Surface portfolio, while also bringing it withing range of more buyers around the globe.

Speaking of the globe, it is believed that the Surface Swift could go on sale in the United States in October, but the company might push back the international launch for a few months. Those in Europe and other key markets will not get their hands on the Swift until January next year.

Goes without saying that there is a lot of speculation in the air regarding these two new entries, so it’s best to take all this with a generous helping of salt.
