And the winner is… The Microsoft Store may be getting better by the minute, but it still has a long way to go to improve the app situation and get the due attention of the Windows community.

Speaking of, the Windows community nominated several projects in a range of different categories when Redmond opened voting for the best applications for Windows 10 and Windows 11 earlier this month.

And the results are in!

According to the voting results, the following are the winners of the Microsoft Store App Awards 2022 in their corresponding categories.

Torrex Lite App

We have apps like ShareX and Speedtest by Ookla in the Utility category. These apps help you automate tasks, diagnose issues, record and share your screen, navigate drivers, and more. In other words, they are indispensable software.

TorreX Lite and Fluent Screen Recorder came as runners-up.

Files App

Next up is the File Management category, where programs that help you manage files on your Windows PC reside. Also here are applications that let you accomplish tasks like compressing your files, converting between formats, viewing and editing metadata, and all that good stuff.

Files and good old Rufus took top honors this time, while 8Zip and One Commander also flew high.

Lively Wallpaper App

We also have the Open Platform category where you can find software that enables you to modify different parts of the operating system or its user interface. These help make the platform more accessible, in essence, turning Windows into your Windows.

Auto Dark Mode, EarTrumpet, and ModernFlyouts took top honors here, while Lively Wallpaper and TranslucentTB were also among fan favorites.

FluentCast App

To top it off, Microsoft Store editors also took the opportunity to mention several great apps in other categories. We have Talk for Me, which got special recognition, as did podcast player FluentCast, an advanced PDF viewer called DrawboardPDF, and the popular messenger Telegram.

Overall, a pretty good show this time around.

The variety of software is excellent compared to previous awards, and things are looking on up for the fledgling apps repository.

Check out these applications if they tickle your fancy. The links above provide much more information.
