That’s a hard no! The developer of the hit sensation Minecraft has drawn a line in the sand against NFTs. The company made it clear where it stood on non-fungible tokens and blockchains.

Mojang Studios wants the game to remain an inclusive experience where everyone has access to the same content. And since NFTs can also be unreliable, the company expressed a desire to keep Minecraft players safe in the game.

Particularly the younger ones.

In case you are blissfully unaware of what NFTs are, these are tokens on blockchains. These digital assets are currently a controversial topic in the gaming scene. Many gamers are decidedly against them and their integration into popular titles.

Interestingly, the phenomenon has already reached the blocky game, as numerous Minecraft-associated NFTs and play-to-earn servers are already available.

This gap in official policy, which Mojang addressed in a recently posted update about this technology, is very much dividing the community into the haves and have-nots.

The update begins with a quick rundown of what NFTs are and their extreme volatility, before laying down the law with the policies on Minecraft servers:

“To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our client and server applications, nor may Minecraft in-game content such as worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods, be utilized by blockchain technology to create a scarce digital asset.”

So, there you have it.

Don’t expect to find NFTs of even blockchain integration after this policy change. In fact, the official Minecraft usage guidelines are also being updated to address the matter in detail.

That said, the company is not completely ruling their integration sometimes in the future. It says that it will continue to monitor the evolution of blockchain technology to determine whether it will enable more secure experiences or offer other practical and inclusive applications in gaming.

Never say never!
