Microsoft have just announced the availability of mobile device management (MDM) in their cloud based Office 365 productivity suite, and this new feature is now available for commercial customers of the service.

Built into the suite, these new options will allow administrators the ability to control access to Office 365 data via iOS, Android and Windows Phone powered tablets and smartphones.

The company explained these great new powers for system administrators, saying:

“You can set and manage security policies such as device-level pin lock and jailbreak detection to help prevent unauthorized users from accessing corporate email and data on a device when it is lost or stolen. Additional settings and rich reporting are also available within the Office 365 admin center so you can gain critical insights about devices accessing your corporate data.”

Security takes center stage in this new update, with options like conditional access, remote wipe of Office and associated data, even on personal devices.

Redmond also rolled out a new video, showcasing mobile device management:

These features are available at no extra cost, and are sure to draw even more enterprise users to the already popular Office 365 suite — in particular businesses that have implemented BYOD scenarios, and now demand increased control and security for their users.

Rollout starts today, with complete worldwide availability expected in the next four to six weeks.
