Microsoft Office apps have been around for a long time on mobile, a long time. But the company has finally converged them up in a new Office app that combines Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Into one remarkable solution.
As the software giant announced, this new app combines the functionality of these 3 applications and integrates that with other Microsoft services like Office Lens and Sticky Notes.
“We have made several enhancements since the public preview—such as support for third-party storage services including Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and iCloud; templates to help you create new documents, spreadsheets, and presentations; and general performance improvements. The Office ap for Android is fully optimized for tablets when working with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents and we are committed to making the rest of the Android app as well as the iOS app fully optimized for tablets soon.”
No longer will users be required to download and install these applications separately, or keep all of them updated. This new app will not replace the standalone mobile apps on iOS and Android, in case you were wondering.
Here is how it looks:
This new app is designed to provide quick access to common tasks like the ability to sign PDFs, scan QR codes, and transfer files between devices. You also have new features like Word Dictation, Excel Cards View, and Outline to PowerPoint.
Just like the standalone Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps, this new unified Office app is free to use. Though some features obviously require an Office 365 subscription.
